So you’re asking yourself – what does health have to do with mindfulness?
Everything!
In order to Upgrade Your Joy it is essential to do so in all areas of your life, including how you fuel your body. Think about the last time you had a great quality meal; how did it made you feel? Good, right!
Fuel your body with Nutrition while being mindful. Below are three strategies that will help you to become more mindful of how your health and wellness correlate.
1. Be Mindful of Your Portions
We live in a society where bigger is better, but that shouldn't be the case when eating your meals. We personally grew up with the "finish your plate" rule and I know many of you had the same rule growing up. Unfortunately, that rule is often ingrained in us as we get older. So what do you do to get over that? Choose a smaller plate! We have been in the habit of only eating off the appetizer plates. Filling that appetizer plate still fills you up and ensures you are eating mindful portions. If you're at a restaurant and the portion is large, split it with a friend or ask for a to-go container so you don't over-indulge. Train yourself to be mindful of your portions. Your body will thank-you for it.
2. Only Eat Foods that are "Worthy"!
So what is a worthy food? A worthy food is something that you truly enjoy. For example: we love Justin's mom's homemade chocolate chip cookies. I don't typically eat chocolate chip cookies or a lot sweets but these are so worth the calories. It's very often you find yourself snacking on foods just because they are there. Don't eat because they are there. Make sure they are worthy of the calories. If you find that snacking at home alone is a problem; eliminate the foods that are your weakness and keep them for special treats. You will truly enjoy them when you do allow yourself to indulge.
3. Meal Prepping
As Justin and I have been on our Keep It Simple Sexy (KISS) wellness plan we have found that part of mindful eating is to plan our meals ahead of time. Every Sunday, we make our lunches for the work week, and plan our dinners for the upcoming week. As a result of such planning: it's been such a relief. It's nice to not have to worry about what to make for dinner, or having to grab something unhealthy because you are caught up in meetings at work with no time to eat. Its also a relief knowing that we're fueling our bodies with healthy meals. Prepping healthy clean meals is crucial in your overall wellness and help you to achieve your goals sooner than later.
We hope that you will incorporate these three strategies into your daily life. Both your mind and body will thank you! KISS.
With Love & Kindness,
